Goa - Physical Features
Goa has many physical features in common with the neighboring
states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. Physical Goa can be divided
into three geographical divisions, namely, the mountainous region
formed by the Sahyadri ranges in the east, the plateau region in the
center and the low-lying river basins and coastal plains.
The Sahyadris Ranges spans over an area of about 600 sq km and has
an average elevation of 800 m. The most prominent peaks of the
ranges are Sonsagar, Vaguerim, Morlemchogor and Catlanchimauli. This
area is the mother source of almost all rivers of Goa. The central
region of Goa has plateaus ranging between altitudes of 30 m to 100
m. The rivers Mandovi and Zuari drain the major portions of the
plains in Goa. The Chapora in the north and the Sal and the
Kushavati in the south have shallower basins. These basins have
alluvial flats near the coastal regions to form rich agricultural
tracts. The important rivers that drain Goa are Tiracol, Baga,
Mandovi, Zuari, Chapora, Sal, Galgibagh and Talpona.
Goa - Climate
Goa experiences moderate weather conditions with very little
variations. The hottest month of summer is May with maximum
temperature rising up to34°C. The coldest months of winter are
